I am a student at the University of Florida, currently majoring in English and Anthropology with a minor in Italian Studies. This semester I enrolled in a course called Internet Literature and was excited by the fact that I had no idea what to expect. I figured as a class we would explore the world of literature by way of the internet (duh), but had no idea that this exploration would also delve deeply into the qualities of creativity, technology, perspective, and personal aesthetic.
This blog is the first large installment of a semester-long project that examines Italo Calvino’s Six Memos for the Next Millennium and N. Katherine Hayles’ Electronic Literature, and how these works relate to specific examples on Internet Literature. You will find posts explaining Calvino and Hayles’ perspectives on E-Lit as well as posts based off of my own creative exploration of these subjects.
As a student of English, Italian, and Anthropology, I observe and explore the ins and outs of language, art, and culture. This expansion of my studies to the vast world of the internet will prove to be challenging, confusing at times, but most importantly, enlightening. So please, I implore you, join me on this journey.
